Killed in action was Marine Lance Cpl. John M. Boyce, whose wife Roseanna, lives in Central Point.  Mrs. Boyce said her husband was killed 2 March 1968 by small arms fire while serving with the Third Marines in Quang Tri Province. (The Oregonian, Portland OR, 13 March 1968)

Funeral Tuesday for Cpl. Boyce
Funeral services for Marine Lance Cpl John Merton Boyce, 20, who died 2 March 1968 in Vietnam, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel on the North Phoenix Road. The Rev. Richard Ralls of the Country Church on Table Rock Road will officiate. Committal will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Conger-Morris Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Military honors will be provided by the staff of the Inspector Instructor of B Company, 10th Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Corps Division, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Eugene. Cpl. Boyce was born 16 October 1947, in Portland, and had lived in Southern Oregon most of his life, graduating from Crater High School in 1966. He was married 12 January 1968 to Roseanna Sprinkle, who survivors... Other survivors include a sister, Marian Atkinson, Newberg OR; his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Cranston, Central Point; three foster brothers, Marine Lance Cpl. James Cranston, Okinawa, Donald Cranston, Central Point, and Larry Cranston, Porterville CA; and a foster sister, Mrs. Bill Weddle, Medford. (Medford Mail Tribune, Medford OR, 18 March 1968)

In my last note from John, he said...
 
"Just remember, Drip I'd do anything in the world for you if it would make you happy.  If anything happens to me, I want you to always remember... I'll be waiting for you to be called 'home'.

         All my love forever, John aka Pretty Boy"

'Drip' was my nickname because my last name was Sprinkle and his nickname was my 'Pretty Boy'.

He was my "Special Angel" who came into my life to complete me and give me joy that I'll never be able to replace.  John is in my thoughts everyday and I'll always have the happiness of knowing he was truly my once in a lifetime love.  I'll be running into his arms when God calls me home!!
